RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- At least 16 Palestinians were detained during overnight raids across the occupied West Bank Tuesday, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) and the Israeli army.
PPS reported in a statement that a total of seven Palestinians who were detained from the central West Bank district of Ramallah and al-Bireh.
The detainees were identified as Nour Adel al-Barghouthi and Wisam Rimawi from the Ramallah area village of Beit Rima; Adnan Lafi and Yousif Thaer Farhan were detained from the Qalandiya refugee camp, while Omar Nakhla was detained from Jalazone refugee camp in the north of Ramallah; Two Palestinians were detained from the village of al-Mughayyir in the north of Ramallah, and were identified as Abbas Abu Aliya and Ehab Osama Abu Aliya.
PPS reported a total of four detentions from the Hebron district, with Mahmoud Ramadan al-Rojbe and Ahmad Abu Sbeih detained from Hebron city, Ibrahim Mohammad al-Hour from Surif village in the northwest of the district, and Thaer Abu Sharkh from the al-Dhahiriya village in the southwest of Hebron.
Three members of the Odeh family were detained from the town of Huwwara near Nablus in the occupied West Bank, and were identified as Abdallah Ehab Odeh, and brothers Mohammad Rafaat Odeh and Abdelraman Rafaat Odeh.
From the Jericho district, PPS identified one Palestinian detainee as Tariq Peter Issa.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma’an 10 of the detentions, identifying one from the village of Kifl Haris in the Salfit district, two from Beit Rima, two from al-Mughayyir, one from Jalazone refugee camp, one from Qalandiya camp, and three from the Hebron district.
Israeli forces carry out raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-nightly basis. Although UN documentation estimates that the army has carried out a weekly average of 75 detention raids in the occupied West Bank so far in 2016, the average rose to 93 weekly raids from June onwards.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, some 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of July.
