BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 40 Palestinians, including at least 11 minors, in overnight raids in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem between Wednesday and Thursday, Palestinian and Israeli sources told Ma’an.
East Jerusalem
Israeli forces reportedly raided homes in at least three neighborhoods of occupied East Jerusalem, detaining 16 Palestinians, Palestinian sources said.
Muhammad Abu al-Hummus, a spokesperson for a local popular committee in the neighborhood of Issawiya, said that Israeli forces raided Issawiya in the early hours on Thursday, storming the area from several entrances and deploying in its streets, searching houses.
Lawyer Muhammad Mahmoud, from prisoners rights group Addameer, identified the 11 detained in Issawiya as Muhammad Adnan Mahmoud, 17, brothers Ahmad, 17, and Muhammad Samir Obeid, 18, Samir Akram Attiyeh, 15, Rushdi Bahaa Obeid, 20, Alaa Abu Riyaleh, Imad al-Din Mahmoud Sbeitan, 18, Muhammad Abd al-Raouf Mahmoud, 17, Mustafa Ibrahim Isseileh, 21, Ahmad Kayid Mahmoud, 22, and Muhammad Issam Obeid, 20.
He added that four others -- identified as Ibrahim Abu al-Hawa, 15, Ahmad Marwan Abu Jumaa, 16, Riyad Muhammad Karawi, 15, and Wajih Amin Sbitan, 19 -- were detained in the neighborhood of al-Tur, while another, Nawwar Omran Qawasmeh, was detained in Abu Dis.
The Wadi Hilweh Information Center said in its monthly report that Israeli forces had detained 153 Palestinians from Jerusalem in September, including five women and 37 minors -- six of whom were under the age of 12.
The report added that the September detentions were mainly in Issawiya and the Shufat refugee camp, with 44 and 39 detentions respectively.
Tulkarem and Tubas districts
In the northern West Bank district of Tulkarem, Israeli forces detained at least 10 Palestinians.
Locals at the Nur Shams refugee camp told Ma’an that Israeli forces stormed the camp on Thursday at dawn and raided several houses before detaining youths and taking them to an unknown location. They added that no clashes erupted during the raid.
The head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) in Tulkarem, Ibrahim Nimr, told Ma’an that Israeli forces detained seven Palestinians in Nur Shams.
He identified them as Murad Nawwaf Sawalha, 19, Muhammad Ibrahim Hamarsheh, 18, Nasser Jihad al-Jundi, 19, Mahmoud Riyad Jaber, 24, Muhammad Riyad Jaber, 18, Ayham Raed Fahmawi, 17, and his brother Haitham.
Nimr added that the Israeli army had also delivered a summons to Saif Hifthi Abu Lubdeh when they raided his home, requesting that he meet with Israeli intelligence.
Locals said that Israeli forces have been targeting residents of the refugee camp in recent weeks, as some 20 residents of Nur Shams have reportedly been detained in less than a month.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma’an three detentions in Nur Shams, in addition to two in the village of Iktaba and one in the village of Izbat Shufa.
In the northern West Bank district of Tubas, Palestinian sources said Thaer Odeh, 21, was detained in the al-Faraa refugee camp.
Ramallah district
Meanwhile, at least eight Palestinians were reported detained in the Ramallah al-Bireh district.
PPS reported five detentions in the village of Dura al-Qaraa, identifying them as Ihsan Munther Fawaqa, Issam al-Rifaie, Muhammad Bassam Nathmi, Jihad Anwar Muhammad, and his brother Nadim.
Israeli forces also detained a youth identified as Ashraf al-Hindi in the village of Turmusayya, as well as Munjid Muhammad al-Khatib in the village of Arura, and Issa Muhammad Nabil in the village of Atara.
The Israeli army spokesperson confirmed five detentions in Dura al-Qaraa and one in Turmusayya, claiming that he was a Hamas operative, but did not mention detentions in either Arura or Atara.
Bethlehem and Hebron districts
Local sources told Ma’an that at least four Palestinians were detained In the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem.
In the Duheisha refugee camp, Israeli forces detained one youth identified as Bassel Mizher, 23, while three minors were detained in the Ayda refugee camp.
They were identified as Mustafa Raed Badir, 14, Omar Imad Radi, 14, and Mutaz Ibrahim Musallam, 14, the son of Palestinian prisoner Khalil Musallam.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces detained Abd al-Rahim Mustafa Abu Awwad, 39, from the village of al-Samu town in the Hebron district.
The Israeli army spokesperson confirmed one detention in Duheisha and one in al-Samu.
According to Addameer, at least 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of August.
Israeli forces conduct night raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-daily basis. According to UN documentation, the Israeli army carried out 186 detention raids from Sept. 6 to 19.
