JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian man who was shot earlier on Friday after stabbing an Israeli in East Jerusalem has died from his injuries, Israeli police said.

The man, identified as 23-year-old Ahmad Hamada Qneibi from Kafr Aqab, was initially reported to be in a critical condition after being shot following a stabbing attack on an Israeli near the Ammunition Hill light rail station in Sheikh Jarrah.

He was later pronounced dead by Israeli police.

Israel's army said two Israelis were stabbed and injured near the Palestinian Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, with Israeli media later reporting that the second Israeli was injured after being shot by Israeli police as they tried to fire at the attacker.

The Israeli was moderately wounded in the stabbing and taken to hospital for treatment.

Qneibi was one of nearly 70 Palestinians to be killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of October, after another man, Qassem Mahmoud Sabaneh from Jenin, was shot and killed earlier in the day after allegedly attempting to stab an Israeli border policeman at the Zatara checkpoint south of Nablus.

Passerby hit in Israeli crossfire after guards, civilians and policeman fatally shoot terrorist who stabbed American; incident comes hours after attempted stabbing attack in West Bank.

A Palestinian man stabbed and wounded a U.S. citizen in Jerusalem on Friday afternoon, just hours after Israeli security forces thwarted an attempted an attack in the West bank.

The 23-year-old attacker, an East Jerusalem resident, stabbed the man, 22, in his upper body near the Light Rail station at Ammunition Hill. He then tried to stab another bystander but was shot down by light rail security guards, a border policeman, and a civilian at the scene.

An errant bullet also wounded a 20-year-old Israeli, who was evacuated in moderate condition to a Jerusalem hospital with a bullet wound below the waist.

Paramedics treated the two wounded men on scene. "When we arrived we saw a young man, about 22, that was fully conscious," said Boaz Ellenson, a senior Magen David Adom medic who treated the victim. "He walked and suffered a stab wound to the upper body. We gave him a initial medical aid on the scene and then evacuated him to a hospital quickly."

According to the medic, the wounded man said he saw the attacker running towards him with a knife. He tried to escape, but the attacker chased him and managed to stab him. The stabbing victim was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, and the man wounded by security fire was taken to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital.

The stabbing broke almost two weeks without terrorist attacks in Jerusalem. Recently the focal point of the violence has shifted to the West Bank, particularly to the Hebron area, where ten attacks took place, with five civilians and three soldiers wounded. Sixteen out of 17 terrorists in the Hebron area were shot dead by security forces on the scene.

Earlier on Friday, two Palestinians stabbed a Border Police officer at the Tapuah Junction east of Ariel, before another officer shot them, killing one and seriously wounding another.

According to the police, the two terrorists arrived at the scene on a scooter. The dismounted, drew knives and stabbed a Border Police officer before they were shot down.

The slain attacker was later identified by the Palestinian Health Ministry as Qassem Sabaana, 20, from Jenin in the West Bank.
Meanwhile, clashes broke out across the West Bank and on the Gaza border, after Palestinian factions declared Friday as a day of support for the situation in Hebron.
