JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli officials on Monday issued an eviction order to a home in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem, Wafa news agency reported.

The eviction notice was issued to Fatima Salamieh, who has lived in the home since the 1950's. The Salamieh family say that the authorities want to hand the property over to settlers, who claim it is owned by Jews.

On April 18, Israeli police forcibly evicted 14 members of the Natsheh family after an Israeli court ruled in favor of settlers, who moved into the property.

The incident was the first eviction in the Palestinian neighborhood Beit Hanina, but settlers have taken over several homes in nearby Sheikh Jarrah.

EU missions in Jerusalem and Ramallah slammed the eviction in Beit Hanina, saying they were "deeply concerned by the plans to build a new settlement in the midst of this traditional Palestinian neighborhood."

In January 2011, Israeli bulldozers demolished the Shepherd Hotel in Sheikh Jarrah to make way for a new settlement.

Israel captured East Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War and later annexed it in a move never recognized by the rest of the world.

Israel to Evict Palestinian Family from its Jerusalem Home

JERUSALEM, May 7, 2012 (WAFA) – A Palestinian family from Jerusalem Monday received an Israeli court eviction order from its house in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem in order to hand it over to settlers, according to the family.

The order was issued in the name of Fatima Salamieh, who has been living in her Sheikh Jarrah house since the 1950s. Israeli groups claim the house and the entire area where the house is located is owned by Jews and that they were claiming it back.

Several Palestinian families have lost their homes in the same neighborhood and under the same pretext in recent months. Jewish settlers had moved into the homes the Palestinian families were forcefully evicted from.
