GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Egyptian authorities have opened the Rafah crossing, between Egyptian and Palestinian borders in the southern besieged Gaza Strip, allowing passage in both directions on Wednesday morning.
The Rafah crossing administration announced that the Egyptian authorities informed the Palestinian administration of the reopening in regard to humanitarian cases.
The Rafah crossing has been open in one-way-only for the past week, to allow the return of Palestinian pilgrims from Saudi Arabia to the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, hundreds of stranded Palestinians at the crossing appealed to the Egyptian and Palestinian authorities to work on allowing immediate access into the Gaza Strip.
Palestinians complained to the authorities after being stranded for more than one night on the al-Miadiyah desert road without any sort of services services provided to ease the delay.
Stranded Palestinians waiting to be allowed passage from Egypt into Gaza through the Rafah crossing are forced to stay overnight in nearby mosques, vehicles or even under trees in public areas.
The opening of the crossing allowing passage in both directions came after Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi decided to open the crossing more often to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people.
