BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli police said Saturday evening that they arrested seven Palestinians in the village of Samu near Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank, during a raid to uncover weapons and ammunition.

Israeli police spokesperson Luba al-Samri said in a written statement that two guns, a “large number” of ammunition, a military uniform, and other military equipment were seized.

Local sources identified six of the seven detainees as Israa Ishaq Buheis, Jihad Muhammad Buheis, as well as Rafat Muhammad Moussa Buheis and his brothers Raed, Ali, and Moussa.

Israeli forces carry out detention raids across the occupied territory on a near-daily basis, with the UN recording an average of 95 weekly raids in the West Bank in 2016, and 100 weekly raids on average thus far in 2017.

A joint report by Palestinian prisoners’ organizations said that over the course of January alone, 590 Palestinians were detained across the occupied territory, including 128 children, 14 women, and one journalist.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, a total of 6,500 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of January.
