RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 20 Palestinians in overnight raids in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem on Tuesday, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said that five Palestinians were detained in the Ramallah al-Bireh governorate, while locals told Ma’an that six people had been detained in the area.
PPS identified the detained as Mahdi Mahir Rayyan, Muhammad Dawood Liftawi, Iyad Nahidh Fawaqa, Mahmoud Khalil Srour from the village of Nilin, and Alawah Abdulkarim Rimawi.
Local sources told Ma’an that two young Palestinian men were detained in the village of Beitillu west of the city of Ramallah, one in the village of Dura al-Qari north of Ramallah, and one in Deir Abu Mashal northwest of Ramallah.
Locals also reported that a man, identified as Karim Muhammad Rimawi from the village of Beit Rima north of Ramallah, was detained after soldiers stopped him for inspection at an Israeli military checkpoint.
Meanwhile, PPS said Noor Tahir Othman and Omar Atiyeh Bassa were detained in occupied East Jerusalem.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that Israeli forces had carried out 12 detentions in total in the West Bank, including six in the Ramallah district.
She listed four detentions in three different localities southeast of Ramallah, one southwest of Ramallah, and one northeast of Ramallah. It remained unclear whether the army included the East Jerusalem detentions in these numbers.
In the northern West Bank district of Jenin, PPS said Israeli forces detained three Palestinians, identified as Mahmoud Hussein Abu al-Kamil, 25, Mahdi Hazim Thiab, and Muhammad Talal Thiab.
PPS also listed the detention of 20-year-old Nabil Ammar Batta from the village of Hajja in the Qalqiliya district. Four other Palestinians from the village were also held by Israeli forces temporarily before being freed.
In the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem, Israeli troops detained Muhammad Issa Thawabta, 17, and Muhammad Jaafar Taqatqa from the town of Beit Fajjar, PPS said.
The Israeli army spokesperson listed three detentions in two separate towns southeast of the city of Bethlehem.
In Hebron in the southern West Bank, PPS said Ulayyan Fawzi Rajabi, 20, Omar Abd al-Mahdi Shawar, 20, and Sharaf Zahida were detained.
The Israeli army confirmed three detentions in Hebron.
According to Palestinian prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of May. According to the organization, 40 percent of the male Palestinian population has been detained by Israeli forces in their lifetime.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) has reported that Israeli soldiers have kidnapped, on Wednesday at dawn, at least sixteen Palestinians in different parts of the occupied West Bank.
The PPS said the soldiers kidnapped five Palestinians from their homes in various towns, in the Ramallah and al-Biereh district, in Central West Bank.
They have been identified as Mahdi Maher Rayyan, Mohammad Daoud al-Liftawi, Mahmoud Khalil Srour, Eyad Nahedh Fawaqa, and Abdul-Karim Rimawi.
It added that the soldiers also kidnapped three Palestinians, identified as Mahmoud Hussein Abu al-Kamel, 25, Mahdi Hazem Thiab, and Mohammad Talal Thiab, in the northern West Bank district of Jenin.
The PPS also stated that the soldiers kidnapped two Palestinians, identified as Mohammad Issa Thawabta, 17, and Mahmoud Ja’far Taqatqa, 19, in Beit Fajjar town, south of Bethlehem.
In Hebron, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank, the soldiers also invaded and searched homes and kidnapped three Palestinians, identified as Oleyyan Fawwaz Rajabi, 20, Omar Abdul-Mahdi Shawar, 20, and Sharaf Zahda.
In occupied Jerusalem, the soldiers stormed and searched homes, and kidnapped two Palestinians, identified as Nour Taher Othman, and Omar Ateyya Bassa.
In related news, the PPS said that the soldiers invaded Hijja town, in the northern West Bank district of Qalqilia, detained and interrogated several Palestinians for a few hours, and release four of them. The Palestinian who was kidnapped has been identified as Nabil Ammar Batta, 20.
In addition, the soldiers stopped a Palestinian truck, loaded with hay, in the Northern Plains of the occupied West Bank, and confiscated it. The trucks belong to Sanad Bani Odah, from the al-Hadeediyya area.
Furthermore, Israeli navy ships also attacked fishing boats, in Gaza territorial water, and kidnapped three fishers.
