BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces carried out predawn detention raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on Tuesday, detaining at least 16 Palestinians, including a 14-year-old, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.
In the town of Qatanna, located in the Jerusalem governorate, Israeli forces detained Muhammad Yousif Shamasna, Muhammad Hushiya and Hasan Mustafa Hushiya. Muhammad Omar Abu Romi, 17, was also detained from his house in al-Eizariya, east of Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces detained Ahmad Mazin Abu Khdeir, 14, from his house in the Shufat refugee camp in occupied East Jerusalem.
Israeli forces also raided the town of Azzun in the Qalqiliya district in the northern occupied West Bank and detained Muhammad Tahir Asayrah, 49.
Baraa Nawwaf al-Amir, 21, was detained in the town of Kafr Qalil near Nablus after Israeli forces ransacked his house, Palestinian security sources told Ma’an, adding that al-Amir is a law student at Al-Najah National University.
Further north, Israeli forces raided the Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarem, detaining Hamza Fathi Qarawi, 30, from his home.
Detention raids were also reported in the district of Ramallah, with Israeli forces detaining four Palestinians, identified as Christiano Sam Zahran, 16, Sayf Rasim Huseein, 17, and Hassan Ahmad Antoush, 16, from the village of Deir Abu Mashal. Hazim al-Qawasmi was also detained in the Umm al-Sharayit neighborhood of Ramallah, the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said in a statement
Imad Yousif al-Sheikh, 16, was detained from his house in the village of Marah Rabah south of the city of Bethlehem.
PPS additionally reported a detention raid in Hebron in the southern West Bank, where locals reported that Israeli forces detained Shahir Yahya Abu Jheisha.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed 10 detentions, noting an additional two Palestinians detained near Bethlehem for which Palestinian sources did not provide details.
Several Palestinians were detained over alleged “illegal activities,” while at least two were detained over being suspected Hamas operatives, the spokesperson told Ma’an.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons. The organization estimates that around 40 percent of the Palestinian male population has been detained at some point in their lives.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) has reported that Israeli soldiers have kidnapped, overnight and on Tuesday at dawn, at least fourteen Palestinians, including several children, in different parts of the occupied West Bank.
The PPS said the soldiers invaded several communities in the Ramallah and al-Biereh District, in the central West Bank, searched many homes and kidnapped four Palestinians, identified as Cristiano Sam Zahran, 16, Saif Rasem Hussein, 17, Hasan Ahmad Antoush, 16, from Deir Abu Mashal town, and Hazem al-Qawasma, 28.
The soldiers also invaded homes in Qotna and al-‘Ezariyya towns, near occupied Jerusalem, and kidnapped Wisam Mohammad Houshiyya, Hasan Mustafa Houshiyya, Mohammad Yousef Shamasna, Mohammad Omar Roumi, 17.
In addition, the soldiers kidnapped Ahmad Mazen Abu Khdeir, 14, in Shu’fat neighborhood, Jerusalem.
Furthermore, the soldiers kidnapped Bara’ Nawwaf al-‘Amer, 21, from the northern West bank district of Nablus, and Hamza Fathi Qar’awi, 30, from Ein Shams refugee camp, in the northern West Bank district of Tulkarem.
The PPS also said that the soldiers kidnapped Mohammad Taher ‘Asayra, 49, from ‘Azzoun town, in the northern West Bank district of Qalqilia, Emad Yousef Sheikh, 16, from Marah Rabah village, in Bethlehem, and Shaher Yahya Abu Jheishe, in the southern West Bank district of Hebron.
