JERUSALEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces on Sunday detained seven Palestinians from occupied East Jerusalem,Addameer prisoners' rights group said.

Addameer lawyer Muhammad Mahmoud said that Israeli forces detained the seven Palestinians from the al-Sowwana, al-Issawiya, Silwan and al-Thawri neighborhoods and villages of occupied East Jerusalem.

The detainees were identified as Mansour abu Gharebah, his son Ahmad, Farid Obeid, Omar abu al-Hawa, Majd al-Awar,Ekram Ghazzawi, and Amah Ghazzawi.

The circumstances under which the seven were detained are unknown.

Separately, Shoroq Dwayyat, 18, will soon be put onthe trial, under the charges of allegedly “trying to stab an Israeli soldier” in Jerusalem, Israeli police said.

Shorouq Dwayyat was shot and critically wounded earlier this month, after stabbing an Israeli soldier in Jerusalem.

Dwayyat's brother, Muhammad Dwayyat was detained following the incident and is being held without charge or trial on administrative detention, Mahmoud said.

The Dwayyat family has reportedly been issued a home demolition order for their home in Sur Bahir neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem.

Israeli forces have detained at least 876 Palestinians during the month of October, prisoner rights group Addameer told Ma'an on Thursday.

Addameer said the 876 new detainees has brought the total number of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel to around 6,200 people.

Over 500 Palestinians were detained in the occupied West bank, 213 in East Jerusalem, and 152 in Israel. Over 130 of the detainees were children, Addameer said.

The latest upsurge in detentions comes as part of Israel's crackdown on the Palestinian population, under the pretext of restoring calm in the amid an increase in violence since Oct. 1.

Overnight on Wednesday alone, Israeli forces detained 84 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The Palestinian Authority Committee for Prisoners' Affairs had counted 650 Palestinians detained during the first ten days of October.

The committee said that most of the Palestinians were detained during clashes with Israeli soldiers, or subsequently in overnight raids.

The committee highlighted that many Palestinians had reported being held for hours at interrogation centers, undergoing humiliation and maltreatment. Some prisoners said that they were violently beaten during their detention.

While Israel has carried out a weekly average of 78 search and arrest raids of Palestinian towns in the occupied Palestinian territory in 2015, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, such raids have significantly increased this month.

The campaigns are a part of alleged efforts by Israeli authorities to "deescalate" current tensions in the area, measures that Palestinian ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, has referred to as "repression and collective punishment."
