Description
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Dozens of Palestinians were injured late Friday during clashes with Israeli forces in West Bank towns east of Jerusalem, a local popular committee spokesman said.
Hani Halabiya told Ma'an fierce clashes broke out in the Kubsa neighborhood of Abu Dis and in al-Eizariya near the main entrance to the illegal Israeli settlement of Maale Adumim.
Several young men were hurt by tear gas and rubber-coated bullets, which hit one protester in the neck and another in the head, Halabiya said.
Two Palestinians were arrested by undercover Israeli forces in al-Eizariya, he said.
Undercover officers also detained four young Palestinians in the al-Suwwana neighborhood of Jerusalem and one in the Shufat neighborhood, Halabiya added.
An Israeli police spokesman did not answer calls seeking further details.
Clashes come in the midst of tension after a Palestinian youth from Shufat was kidnapped and killed Wednesday, in an apparent revenge attack for the murder of three Israeli teens.
Israeli police say the circumstances behind 16-year-old Muhammad Abu Khdeir's killing remain unclear.
