ERUSALEM (Ma’an) -- A group of Israelis broke two Muslim gravestones in a Jerusalem cemetery on Saturday, the Al-Aqsa Foundation said.

More than 20 Israelis gathered in Bab al-Rahmah cemetery near the eastern wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform prayers, the Foundation for Waqf (Endowment) and Heritage said.

A cemetery guard told the foundation he shouted at them to leave, and the group responded by insulting him and jumping on graves, breaking two gravestones belonging to the Nayroukh and Abu Sbeih families.

The Israelis left the cemetery after he threatened to call the police, the guard added.

The Al-Aqsa Foundation warned that Israeli authorities plan to convert the cemetery into a Jewish park.
