ETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces arrested a number of Palestinians in the West Bank early Wednesday.

In the city of Jenin and its refugee camp, soldiers ransacked several homes overnight and fired tear gas canisters at locals, Palestinian security sources told Ma'an.

Israeli forces arrested eight people, among them the son of jailed Hamas leader Jamal Abu al-Haija and the son of former Palestinian official Wasfi al-Qabaha.

The other six detainees were identified as Alaa Yousef al-Qarut, Shawqi Tahir, Ahmad Shawki Tahir, Rami al-Boul, Muhammad Hasan Zakarnah, and Wasim Eid Meri.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces raided Majdal Bani Fadil near Nablus and detained 32-year-old Samahir Ali Zein al-Din after ransacking her home, witnesses said.

Al-Din's husband was detained two months ago, locals told Ma'an. The couple has six children.

In Burqa, also in the Nablus district, Israeli forces detained 18-year-old Tariq Khaled Abu Fanous.

Additionally, Israeli forces made several arrests east of Jerusalem, a local popular committee spokesman told Ma'an.

Hani Halabiya said that 25 Israeli military vehicles entered the towns of Abu Dis and al-Eizariya, and that Israeli forces detained a woman and eleven young men.

Amid clashes with local Palestinian youths, Israeli forces arrested Eyhab Raed Abu Rumi, Muhammad Sami Bassah, Raghib Mousa Jabir, Ayman Omar Jabir, Muhammad al-Sabi, Mahmoud Ahmad al-Mukahal, Wisam Ahmad al-Mukahal, Muhammad Ahmad al-Mukahal, Muhammad Bassam Sinnawi, and Yousef Walid Abu Rumi.

The forces arrested the wife of Alaa Bassam Udwan, telling family members she would be released when her husband turned himself into Israeli authorities, Halabiya said.

Similarly, Jamil Abu Ziad was arrested in place of his son Hashim, he added.

Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told Ma'an he was not familiar with any arrests being made by the Border Police in Abu Dis or al-Eizariya.

An Israeli army spokeswoman told Ma'an 12 Palestinians were arrested overnight.

Four Palestinians were arrested in the Nablus district and eight in Jenin, the spokeswoman said.

North of Nablus, Israeli forces "exposed an IED," she said.

In Jenin, she said Palestinians hurled IEDs and fired shots at Israeli soldiers who were in the area to arrest seven Palestinians.

Israeli forces responded with live fire and riot dispersal means, she said.

No injuries were reported.

The soldiers arrested an additional Palestinian for stone throwing, the spokeswoman said.

She added that soldiers discovered and confiscated an IED, a firearm, and ammunition during the Jenin arrest raid.

At Least 22 Palestinians Arrested In West Bank, Occupied Jerusalem

[Wednesday, May 28, 2014] Israeli soldiers invaded different parts of the occupied West Bank, and occupied East Jerusalem, kidnapping at least 22 Palestinians.

Local sources in Jerusalem stated that the soldiers invaded the al-Ezariyya town, east of occupied Jerusalem, and kidnapped twelve Palestinians, including one woman.

Hani Halabiyya, spokesperson of the Popular Committee Against the Wall and Settlements in Jerusalem, told the WAFA Palestine News Agency that at least 25 Israeli military jeeps invaded the town, and broke into dozens of homes before kidnapping the twelve Palestinians.

The kidnapped have been identified as Raed Abu Roomy, Mohammad Sami Bassa, Ragheb Mousa Jabr, Ayman Amr Jabr, Hashem Jamil Abu Zayyad, Mohammad as-Sabe’, Mahmoud Ahmad Al-Mekhel, Wissam Ahmad Al-Mekhel, Mohammad Ahmad Al-Mekhel, Mohammad Bassam As-Sinnawy, Yousef Walid Abu Roomy, and the wife of Ala’ Bassam Adwan who is “wanted” by the army.

Israel repeatedly arrests family members, including wives, mothers and sisters of sought Palestinian activists in an attempt to oblige them to surrender.

Halabiyya said that it is likely the arrests were carried out to intimidate the Palestinians into halting solidarity activities in support of all Palestinian detainees, especially since the majority of those kidnapped participated in those nonviolent activities, especially the “Salt and Water” activity held in solidarity with hunger striking Palestinian detainees.

A central massive protest is scheduled to be conducted this coming Friday in occupied Jerusalem following Friday prayers at the al-Aqsa Mosque.

Several Israeli military jeeps also invaded Jenin city, and the Jenin refugee camp, in the northern part of the West Bank, kidnapping seven Palestinians.

Local sources said that several Israeli military jeeps and undercover soldiers driving cars with Palestinian plates invaded Jenin and fired dozens of rounds of live ammunition and gas bombs, kidnapping five Palestinians.

The five have been identified as Arab American University students Ala’ Yousef al-Qaroot, 21, Aseed Ramy al-Bool, 21, Shawqi Taher Zakarna, 22, his brother Ahmad, and Mohammad Jaber Zakarna, 21.

In Jenin city, the soldiers also invaded homes and searched them, before kidnapping two Palestinians identified as Waseem Eed Mer’ey, 24, and Hasem Jamal Abu al-Haija, 21.

In addition, one Palestinian identified as Jom’a Adnan Mousa, 17, suffered fractures and bruises after being assaulted by soldiers manning the al-Jalama roadblock, northeast of Jenin.

In Hebron, in the southern part of the West Bank, soldiers kidnapped Yousef Gheith, and Shaher al-Qawasma, while a third Palestinian, identified as Bajes ad-Dababsa, was kidnapped in Yatta nearby town.

The soldiers also invaded various neighborhoods in Hebron city, and installed roadblocks at the entrances of Sair town, north of Hebron, Doura and ath-Thaheriyya towns, south of Hebron, and the Halhoul Bridge, north of Hebron, stopped and searched dozens of cars and inspected the ID cards of the passengers.

In Bethlehem, soldiers invaded the Aida refugee camp, north of the city, broke into at least one home and kidnapped one Palestinian identified as Akram Khader Abu Khdeir, 19.
