RAMALLAH, July 28, 2011 (WAFA) - The completion ceremony for the project of Extending the Electric Network was held in Kufr-Ein, a Village northwest of Ramallah on Thursday, according to a press release by the Japan Representative office.
The release said that the project was funded by the Government of Japan in 2010, through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
With the fund of $104,017, Kufr-Ein Village Council has implemented the project of extending the Electric Network in the village, to realize safe and sufficient provision of electricity for all citizens in Kufr-Ein Village by extending the existing electric network to the districts without electricity supply including some parts of the main road. As a result, a stable electricity supply is secured to every district in the village, which is expected to promote economic and social development of the village, it said.
Deputy Representative of Japan to the Palestinian National Authority, Hideaki Yamamoto, Deputy Governor of Ramallah & Albira, Hamdan Bargouti, Manager of Jerusalem electric company, Nayef khashan, Deputy Director general of local governorate, Abdallah Abed Elwahed, and Head of Kufr-Ein village council, Mohammad Bargouti, attended the ceremony.
Yamamoto stated in his speech that despite the continuing hardships caused by the massive earthquakes and Tsunami on March 11, Japan is going to continue supporting Palestinians' efforts to establish a viable independent Palestinian state with capacities for providing basic daily services to its citizens.
The GGP scheme is specifically designed to address basic daily needs at grassroots level from human security perspective, such as water supply, rural electrification, health care, and primary education. In the Japanese Fiscal Year 2010, a total of $1,068,288 for eleven projects in the West Bank and Gaza Strip were funded by the government of Japan under GGP scheme, which is a part of Japan’s total assistance to the Palestinians since 1993 amounting about $ 1.21 billion, the release said.
