Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- The family of a Palestinian man shot and killed by Israeli police in Jerusalem have launched a website and petition calling for a criminal investigation into the incident.

The website of his family says Ziad Jilani was murdered June 11, 2010 by Maxim Vinogradov, a member of the Israeli border police, after crashing his car in east Jerusalem.

Israeli police say they opened fire at him when he got out of his car and started running from the scene. The incident occurred amidst violent clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces.

Israel's justice ministry and prosecutor both opened cases but closed them later.

"His death reveals how at any moment, a Palestinian can be randomly killed, labeled as a terrorist and have their death dismissed," the family wrote on their website, Killing Without Consequences.

"We are working to hold Israeli soldiers accountable for their actions to prevent more senseless deaths."
