Jewish extremists spray graffiti on Hebron mosque

Description
HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Suspected Jewish extremists sprayed graffiti on a mosque near Hebron and tried to set fire to several cars in the area late Tuesday, a Palestinian official said.

Gamal Abu Iram, an official in Hebron's office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, told Ma'an that 'Price tag Migron' was sprayed by settlers on the mosque in Dura.

"The settlers tried to burn the mosque and several cars around the mosque. This attack is one of several that settlers have committed against Palestinians and their religious places," PA Minister of Religious Affairs Mahmoud al-Habbash told Ma'an.

Israeli security sources told Ma'an that graffiti was discovered on a mosque in Hebron and the incident is being investigated. The attack reportedly happened on Tuesday but was only reported to authorities on Wednesday, they added.

In August, PA official Ghassan Daghlas warned Palestinians to be cautious of settler attacks ahead of the planned evacuation of illegal Israeli outpost Migron, near Ramallah.

Israeli security officials had also expressed concern about possible acts of retribution for a court-ordered eviction of 50 families from the illegal outpost.

Last week, settlers torched the wooden door of a monastery near Jerusalem and pro-settler graffiti daubed in Hebrew was discovered on the building's stone walls, Israeli police said.

In February, suspected Jewish extremists wrote "Death to Christianity" on two Jerusalem churches. The graffiti also included profanity about Jesus, and the vandals slashed the tires of several cars parked in one of the church compounds.

An ancient mosque in Jerusalem was torched on Dec. 13, and sprayed with the Star of David, "price tag," "Muhammad is a pig" and "A good Arab is a dead Arab" in Hebrew.

Rights groups say settlers are rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities for attacks against Palestinians, which take place frequently in the West Bank.
