The Israeli occupation authorities closed, on Monday, the entire fishing zone in the besieged Gaza Strip, under the pretext that Palestinian resistance factions allegedly fired rockets towards Israel Sunday night, the Palestinian Information Center reported.

It added that the resistance factions stated that the rockets were fired in retaliation for the Israeli forces’ assaults against the peaceful Palestinian muslims celebrating the holy month of Ramadan at Al-Aqsa mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.

Zakariya Baker, coordinator of the fishermen syndicate, stated that Israeli authorities informed them of the decision to close the entire fishing zone and ban Palestinian fisherman from sailing off the coast.

Baker stated;

This is an unjust and arbitrary decision that deprives 4,000 fishermen of their daily source of livelihood and increases their burdens in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic and the restrictions already imposed by the [Israeli] occupation navy.”

In related news, Israeli forces opened fire at farmlands while farmers were present, to the east of Khuza’a town in the southern besieged Gaza Strip.

The threat of injury compelled the shepherds and farmers to leave their farmland and their livelihood.

No injuries were reported.
