Israeli Prison Service (IPS) reportedly placed, on Saturday, a Palestinian man from the northern West Bank city of Jenin, under administrative detention, with no charges, for a period of six months.

Family members of Mahmoud Said Alsa’dy, 40, told the Palestinian WAFA News Agency that the Israeli prison authority of Ofer prison, placed their son, Mahmoud Alsa’dy, under administrative detention and that the circumstances of his imprisonment remain top secret.

The family said that Alsa’dy was abducted a few days ago, at an Israeli army roadblock in the Arraba village, south of Jenin. Israeli soldiers reportedly seized his vehicle.

Important to note, Alsa’dy has spent several years in Israeli prison and been released, Israeli authorities only recently detained him again.

Israel continues to hold around 5,000 Palestinian prisoners inside various Israeli jails, detention centers and prisons. Among those jailed by Israel are women, children under the age of 18 and elderly Palestinians with chronic diseases.

Administrative detention (AD) is a procedure that allows Israeli occupation forces to hold prisoners indefinitely on secret information without charging them or allowing them to stand trial. The secret information or evidence cannot be accessed by the detainee nor his lawyer, and can according to Israeli military orders, an administrative detention order can be renewed for an unlimited time. The court issues an administrative detention order for a maximum period of six months, subject to renewal.
