SALFIT (Ma'an) -- Israeli settlers punctured the tires of several Palestinian-owned vehicles and spray anti-Arab graffiti on walls and vehicles in the Iskaka village east of the northern occupied West Bank city of Salfit, on Thursday morning.

Head of Iskaka village council, Abed al-Qader Abu Hakmeh, told Ma’an that a group of Israeli settlers raided the village after midnight, vandalized vehicles and sprayed racist graffiti on walls of houses and the wall of the village’s mosque.

Israeli human rights group B'Tselem reported that "Settler violence and vandalism takes place with full backing by the Israeli authorities.

Sometimes soldiers take part in the assault; at other times, they stand idly by. The police makes no substantial effort to investigate the incidents, nor takes measures to prevent them or stop them in real time."

Many Palestinian activists and rights groups have accused Israel of fostering a "culture of impunity"for Israelis committing violent acts against Palestinians.

Better known as "price tag" attacks, extremist Israeli settlers use violent acts of retribution on Palestinians and their property to demonstrate their opposition to Israeli restrictions on settlements and their outposts in the occupied West Bank.

Between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis live in Jewish-only settlements across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of international law, with recent announcements of settlement expansion provoking condemnation from the international community.
