HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces ordered a halt on the construction of Palestinian structures in the Masafer Yatta area in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron, on Monday.

Fouad al-Umour, from a local popular resistance committee, said that Israeli forces delivered a stop-construction notice to local Saddam al-Nawajaa for his house, and three other notices to members of the al-Shawahin family; a demolition notice for a water well, another demolition notice for a steel structure used for housing sheep and a stop-construction notice for a room in which the family resides.

Meanwhile, Rateb al-Jbour, coordinator of the National and Popular Committee in southern Hebron said that Israeli forces delivered notices to residents of the the al-Jawaya area east of Yatta, ordered halt of construction for a house, a steel structure and a water well.

The structures were identified as belonging to Abed al-Muttaleb Nawajaa and Moussa Hassan al-Shawahin.

The South Hebron Hills, known locally as Masafer Yatta, lie almost entirely in Area C, the 62 percent of the West Bank under full Israeli civil and security control since the 1993 Oslo Accords.

Masafer Yatta residents were expelled at the time of the establishment of a firing zone in the 1970s and were eventually allowed back following a long court battle, but are under the constant threat of being expelled or seeing their homes demolished.
