QALQILIYA (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained a 19-year-old girl as she returned through an Israeli military checkpoint to the northern West Bank city of Qalqiliya on Tuesday afternoon, her family told Ma'an.

Maha Ghazi Barham, from Kafr Qaddum village east of Qalqiliya, was travelling back after visiting her brother in Israeli jail, relatives said.

Her parents called on the ministry of prisoners and human rights groups to investigate her seizure and demand her immediate release.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said she was not familiar with the incident.
