RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli authorities renewed 49 administrative detention orders against a number of Palestinian prisoners held in various Israeli prisons.
The 49 administrative detention orders were issued between July 19-31. Most of the orders have been renewed for several times now and range from four to six months of prison.
Mahmmud Halabi, lawyer of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), said on Sunday that among the orders issued, there was one new order issued for an additional three months, against a 17-year-old Palestinian minor (a minor is a person under the age of full legal responsibility). He was identified as Laith Abu Kharma.
Halabi added Abu Kharma was detained since September 2017.
Halabi also pointed out that Israeli authorities renewed order for 20 Palestinian prisoners, who have been held in administrative detention for months or even years.
According to prisoners rights group Addameer, there are 5,900 Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli prisons, of whom 442 are in administrative detention, 291 are children, and 49 of the children are under the age of 16.
