GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- One Palestinian was killed and dozens others were injured as Israeli forces suppressed peaceful protesters at the eastern borders of the Gaza Strip during Friday's 'Great March of Return' protests.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that one Palestinian was killed after being injured with a live bullet in the chest in eastern Gaza City; the Ministry identified him as Muhammad Abu Halima, 22.
A Ma’an reporter said that some 46 Palestinians were injured as Israeli forces shelled and opened live fire at a group of protesters who attempted to cross the border fence in eastern Gaza City.
The Ministry said in a statement that 396 Palestinians were wounded on Friday, 57 of them were injured with live fire, and 277 were tear-gas suffocation cases that were treated in the field, while 119 injuries were transferred to hospitals for treatment.
The "Great March of Return" protests were launched by thousands of Palestinian civilians in Gaza -- which has suffered from a decade-long Israeli siege -- who took to the borders to demand their right of return as refugees to their original homelands, now in present-day Israel.
