BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 19 Palestinians during pre dawn raid on Monday, including injured teenager Muhammad Tamimi, 15, who was shot in the face by Israeli soldiers during anti-Trump protests in his village of Nabi Saleh in December.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said in a statement that Israeli forces detained 10 members of the Tamimi family from the central occupied West Bank villages of Deir Nitham and Nabi Saleh.

According to PPS, wounded teen Muhammad Fadel al-Tamimi, 15, and his brother Tamim Fadel al-Tamimi, 17, were detained, in addition to Suhaib Samih al-Tamimi, 14, Ahmad Sami al-Tamimi, 19, Muayyad Hamzeh al-Tamimi, 17, Muhammad Mujahed al-Tamimi, 15, Amjad Abd al-Hafith al-Tamimi, 28, Omar Saleh Tamimi, 29, Islam Saleh al-Tamimi, 21, and Wiam Iyad al-Tamimi, 17.

Muhammad Fadel al-Tamimi was released hours after his detention, with his family adding that he has a reconstructive skull surgery scheduled for March 5. The teen had been shot in the face during protests in Nabi Saleh. Minutes after he was shot, his famous cousin Ahed Tamimi, 17, was filmed kicking and slapping Israeli soldiers who were on her family's property. Ahed is now being prosecuted behind closed doors in an Israeli military court that has a conviction rate of over 99 percent.

Meanwhile, two Palestinians were detained from Ramallah city, while five were detained from the northern West Bank district of Nablus.

Locals from Nablus identified the detainees as Amid Imad Banat, from the Askar refugee camp, Omar Samara from Nablus City, Assem Hassan Assideh, Zaid Ahmad al-Banna Assideh and Mahmoud Abed al-Karim Ramadan from Tel in western Nablus.

In the southern West Bank district of Hebron, PPS said that Israeli forces detained two Palestinians. One of the detainees was identified to Ma’an as Mutasem al-Natsheh from Hebron city.

Israeli Army Detains 10 Palestinians, Including Teen Cousin of Soldier-slapping Ahed Tamimi

Residents of Nabi Saleh believe that the motive for the raid was vengeance on the village and the Tamimi family

by Jack Khoury and Yotam Berger for Haaretz

Palestinian residents of a West Bank village say that the Israeli army conducted a raid early on Monday in which they arrested 10 Palestinians, including five minors. One of those detained is Mohammed Tamimi, the 15-year-old cousin of Ahed Tamimi.

The military confirmed Tamimi was arrested overnight and has been released after being interrogated by the police. His arrest was approved by a military physician, the army added.

Residents of Nabi Saleh believe that the motive for the raid was vengeance on the village and the Tamimi family.

Ahed Tamimi is the Palestinian teen who is currently standing trial for slapping an Israeli solider on film. She has since become a global symbol of the Palestinian resistance movement.

Mohammed Tamimi was seriously wounded after he was shot in the head with a rubber bullet by soldiers in December 2017. He is waiting for surgery to restore part of his skull that was removed in an emergency surgery following the December incident. On the day that the army shot Tamimi in the head, his now-better-known cousin was filmed assaulting two soldiers on her turf.

Sources say that the arrests overnight are apparently related to arrests carried out last month, in which three youths were detained and later interrogated by the Shin Bet.

Dozens of Israeli soldiers invaded, on Monday at dawn, Nabi Saleh village, northwest of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, and abducted a wounded child, and nine other Palestinians, mainly children, from Tamimi family, during extensive and violent searches of their homes.

Media sources in Ramallah said the soldiers abducted a wounded child, identified as Mohammad Fadel Tamimi, 15, and his brother Tamim, 17.

It is worth mentioning that Mohammad was shot two months ago in the head, and is still in a serious condition, awaiting a new surgery scheduled for early March.

The soldiers also abducted Soheib Sameeh Tamimi, 14, Ahmad Sami Tamimi, 19, Moayyad Hamza Tamimi, 17, Mohammad Mojahed Tamimi, 15, Amjad Abdul-Hafith Tamimi, 28, Omar Saleh Tamimi, 29, Islam Saleh Tamimi, 21, and We’am Eyad Tamimi, 17.

Nabi Saleh has been under constant Israeli attacks, invasions and violations since the army abducted ‘Ahed Tamimi, 17, and her mother, especially after various Israeli media outlets, Israeli social media posts and even government officials started a massive incitement campaign against Ahed, and the entire village.

The village has been frequently attacked by armed colonialist settlers, who also closed roads and tried to prevent the Palestinians from entering or leaving it.

The Palestinian Detainees Ministry warned of the sharp rise in the Israeli abductions of children, and the constant violent invasions and searches of homes, which led to extensive damage and terrified entire families.

Commenting on Monday’s invasions of homes and abductions, the committee said that the soldiers invaded Nabi Saleh and Deir Nitham town, northwest of Ramallah, and carried out massive violent searches of homes, and added that such violations reflect the racist nature of the occupation and its military, targeting all Palestinians, especially the children.

It called on the International Red Cross and all legal and human rights groups to intervene and provide the needed protection to the Palestinian people, and their properties.

EARLY MONDAY MORNING, Israeli forces detained a teenage Palestinian boy who has been missing part of his skull since December, when he was shot in the head by an Israeli soldier during a protest against the occupation of his West Bank village.

The boy, Mohammed Tamimi, 15, was one of 10 Palestinian residents of the village of Nabi Saleh arrested in a pre-dawn raid. Tamimi’s 17-year-old cousin, Ahed, has been in an Israeli military prison since December, when she was filmed slapping an Israeli soldier outside her family home about an hour after Mohammed was shot.

Mohammed was arrested in the middle of the night, and taken away for interrogation, despite the fact that his medical condition has been widely reported on in the Israeli press, and his head remains badly deformed.

In a video interview with the Israeli newspaper Haaretz in January, Mohammed had explained that the injury to his skull meant that he would be unable to attend school or leave his house for up to six months.

As the Israeli columnist Gideon Levy reported, the boy had spent three months in an Israeli military prison last year, when he was 14, after being accused of throwing rocks at an Israeli army jeep that had broken down near the entrance to the village.

According to Bassem Tamimi, his cousin Ahed’s father and the organizer of Nabi Saleh’s weekly demonstrations against the occupation, Mohammed’s health remains fragile as he waits for cranial reconstruction surgery scheduled for next week.

Following a wave of criticism from Israeli rights activists, Mohammed was released on Monday afternoon, according to Gaby Lasky, an Israeli lawyer who is defending his cousin Ahed.

Another member of the extended Tamimi family in Nabi Saleh, Bilal, recorded video during the overnight raid on the village which showed the occupation forces spraying parts of the town with foul-smelling liquid intended to be used to disperse crowds.

According to Haggai Matar, an Israeli journalist who reports for the Tel Aviv digital magazine +972, the liquid known locally as “the skunk” is very difficult to wash off and can leave a repulsive scent on objects for months.

As Haaretz reported, Ahed Tamimi’s trial in an Israeli military court began last week with a decision by the judge to close it off from reporters and diplomats.

On December 1, two weeks before Ahed Tamimi was arrested, Israel was holding 313 Palestinian minors as security detainees or prisoners, according to B’Tselem, an Israeli human rights organization that monitors Israel’s military rule over Palestinian civilians in the occupied territories.
