Description
HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained a Palestinian from the Beit Ummar village in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron on Wednesday after raiding and searching his home for the second time in a week.
Local activist Muhammad Ayyad Awad said that Israeli forces raided the area of Khillet al-Ein in Beit Ummar and searched the home of Muhammad Kamel Zaaqiq for the second time in a week.
Yousif Muhammad Kamel Zaaqiq, 27, was detained during the raid on the home, Awad said. Yousif had previously spent five years in Israeli prison, and was released two months ago.
Yousif was transferred to Israel’s Etzion detention center in northern Beit Ummar to undergo interrogations with Israeli authorities.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an she would look into reports on the detention. The spokesperson added that at least five Palestinians were detained during overnight raids between Tuesday and Wednesday. However, she was unable to provide the locations of the detentions.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,279 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of August. The group has estimated that some 40 percent of Palestinian men will be detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
