HEBRON (Ma’an) – Israeli forces installed an army checkpoint at the entrance of Beit Einun village in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron and detained a Palestinian at Kharsa junction in the district on Wednesday.

Local sources told Ma’an that Israeli forces installed an army checkpoint at the entrance of Beit Einun northeast of Hebron, and began searching Palestinian vehicles and demanding Palestinians show identity cards when attempting to cross.

Locals also noted that Israeli forces had detained 25-year-old Saqer al-Sharawi at the Kharsa junction, south of the Hebron-area village of Dura.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an she would look into reports on the closure and the detention at the junction.

Palestinian communities are routinely subjected to arbitrary road closures by Israeli military forces for purported "security reasons," an act which rights groups have denounced as amounting to collective punishment.
