HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli authorities closed the entrance of a Palestinian industrial area in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron on Thursday morning.

Locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces closed the iron gate at the entrance of al-Fahs in southern Hebron and prevented vehicles from crossing either way; only pedestrians were allowed to cross.

Israeli media reported that the closure was implemented following an increase in rock-throwing among Palestinians at Israeli settlers and army vehicles in the area.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an she would look into reports on the closure.

Palestinian communities are routinely subjected to arbitrary road closures by Israeli military forces for purported "security reasons," an act which rights groups have denounced as amounting to collective punishment.
