Israeli forces detain 2 Palestinians in Bethlehem-area village

06:00 Jun 3 2017 Al-Ubeidiya

Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained two Palestinians from the village of al-Ubeidiya in eastern Bethlehem in the southern occupied West Bank during a dawn raid on Saturday.

Locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces raided the village and detained two Palestinian youths, identified as Qutaiba Moussa Khalifeh, 18, and Muath Ramadan al-Assa, 22, after raiding and searching their homes.

The detainees were transferred to an unidentified location, according to locals.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that she did not have any information on the detentions, nor on other detentions carried out overnight in the West Bank.

Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The United Nations recorded an average of 95 weekly raids in the occupied West Bank in 2016, and an average of 67 raids a week so far 2017, while 87 Palestinians were detained over the past two weeks.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,300 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of April, including 300 minors, 61 women, and 500 under administrative detention -- Israel's contested policy of imprisonment without charge or trial.
