BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Palestinian security forces arrested 12 Palestinians between Sunday night and Tuesday morning, the Hamas movement said in two separate statements, accusing the Palestinian Authority (PA) of targeting people with politically-motivated detention campaigns.
. . .
Hamas had also issued a statement Monday morning saying that Palestinian security services arrested four Palestinians Sunday night in raids, including three former prisoners.
In the northern city of Nablus, the PA preventive services arrested former prisoner Mahran Abu Khamis, who was released from Israeli prison three months earlier after spending 12 years in Israeli custody, according to Hamas.
In Tulkarem, preventive services arrested former prisoner Ahmad Fadel al-Sabbah after summoning him for questioning on Sunday morning. Hamas said that al-Sabbah was released from Israeli prison one month ago.
Former prisoner and “former political arrestee” Ammar al-Jallad from Tulkarem was also summoned for an interrogation by the preventive services Monday morning.
Meanwhile, the preventive services in Tulkarem continued to hold engineering student at the Khadouri University Yahiya Sway, according to the statement, which said Sway was arrested last week.
In Bethlehem, PA intelligence services arrested Wissam Abu Basma on Monday, while intelligence services in Jericho continued to hold Hebron University student and former prisoner Rawhi Abu Shamsiyeh for the 16th day in a row, according to Hamas.
In Jericho, preventive services also arrested former prisoner Ibrahim Kassab after he was summoned him for questioning last Thursday.
Hamas, the de facto ruling party in Gaza, and the Palestinian Authority have exchanged accusations of carrying out “politically motivated” arrests.
Fatah and Hamas have been embroiled in conflict since Hamas' election victory in 2006 elections in the Gaza Strip, which erupted into a violent conflict between the two movements as both attempted to consolidate control over the territory.
Hamas has accused the PA of executing a plan to "eradicate" the movement from the West Bank, accusing Fatah of “escalating security collaboration” with the Israeli authorities through politically-motivated arrests and “adopting a revolving door policy" funneling Palestinians from PA jails into Israeli prisons.
