Israeli forces detain 8 Palestinians in overnight West Bank raids

03:00 Apr 13 2017 Jenin, Ramallah and Bethlehem districts, and Dura

Description
RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least eight Palestinians in overnight raids across the occupied West Bank between Wednesday and Thursday, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said in a statement that Israeli forces had detained Iyad Hussam Dabaya, 32, in the Jenin governorate in the northern West Bank.

While an Israeli army spokesperson did not mention any detentions in the Jenin area, an army statement reported that Israeli forces found a locally made weapon in Jenin.

In the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah, PPS said that Yahya Aqil Abu Rabi and Waed Rabah Fuqahaa were detained by Israeli forces.

The army spokesperson mentioned one detention in the city of Ramallah, although they added that three stolen vehicles and 85,000 shekels ($23,250) of “terrorist funds” were seized during a raid in the village of Silwad, which she said was related to a deadly alleged car-ramming attack earlier this month.

The army also said one Palestinian was detained in the Jerusalem-area village of Hizma.

In the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem, PPS said that Ibrahim al-Adel, Stephen Munther Matar, and Anas Ismail Nawawra were detained, although it added that Nawawra was released shortly afterwards.

The Israeli army said two Palestinians were detained in the city of Bethlehem, while another was detained in the nearby Aida refugee camp.

In the Hebron district, PPS said that Ghalib Badawi Hamdan, 20, was detained. Locals told Ma’an that Hamdan was detained in the village of Dura.

The army spokesperson told Ma’an that one Palestinian was detained in al-Tabaqa, a village directly adjacent to Dura.

Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank. The UN recorded an average of 95 weekly raids in the occupied West Bank in 2016, and a weekly average of 78 raids thus far in 2017.

According to Addameer, 6,500 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of January, including 53 women, 300 minors, and 536 held in administrative detention. The group has estimated that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
