RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 18 Palestinians in overnight detention raids between Wednesday and Thursday across the occupied Palestinian territory, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.
Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank. The UN recorded an average of 95 weekly raids in the occupied West Bank in 2016, and 78 weekly raids on average thus far in 2017.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,500 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of January.
Northern West Bank
In the northernmost occupied West Bank, an Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that one Palestinian was detained in the city of Jenin, while another was detained in the Jenin refugee camp.
Meanwhile, locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces raided the house of blind former prisoner Izz al-Din Amarna in the Jenin-area village of Yaabad, interrogating him before confiscating several computers.
Clashes then erupted in the village, with Israeli forces firing tear gas and sound bombs at Palestinian youths, causing some to suffer from tear gas inhalation. No detentions were reported in Yaabad.
In the district of Tubas, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) said that Israeli forces detained three Palestinians, identified as Muhammad Hussein Aida, Hussam Salah Abu Amro, and Muhammad Fathi Mansour.
The army spokesperson confirmed three detentions in the city of Tubas, and added that another Palestinian was detained in the al-Faraa refugee camp.

Hebrew-language media reported that Israeli forces had allegedly found a locally made weapon and a sound bomb in the Ramallah-area village of Rantis.
In the Jericho district, PPS reported the detention of Muhammad Abd al-Fattah al-Zghir, 21, without specifying which municipality. Israeli media reported that Israeli forces found a locally made weapon and ammunition during a raid in Jericho, although it was unclear if it was related to the detention.
Meanwhile, PPS said that Samer Ahmad Muhsin, 19, Muhammad al-Atrash, 16, and Khader al-Kiswani -- who PPS said was a child without specifying his age -- were detained in Jerusalem, without clarifying whether they were taken from occupied East Jerusalem or the Jerusalem district of the West Bank.
The Israeli army said one Palestinian was detained in the Jerusalem-district village of al-Ram.
Southern West Bank
In the Hebron district, PPS said that Israeli forces detained 24 year-old Raed Muhammad Ikhlayyil and Hussein Muhammad al-Khadour.
Local Palestinian activist Muhammad Ayyad Awwad said that Israeli forces raided the village of Beit Ummar at dawn on Thursday, where they detained at least two Palestinians.
Clashes erupted in Beit Ummar during the raid, with Israeli forces firing tear gas in the village, seriously affecting a number of residents.

The Israeli army confirmed two detentions in Beit Ummar.
