JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces demolished a home in East Jerusalem on Tuesday on the pretext that it was built without a permit, Wafa news agency reported.

Ahmed al-robi, adviser of the Presidential Office for Jerusalem Affairs, told Wafa that the home in Khillet al-Ain, near al-Tur, belonged to Tareq al-Arameen.

In May, a home under construction in the Mount of Olives was demolished by Israeli bulldozers without any prior warning. The owner, Samih Idris, was also fined by the Jerusalem municipality.

On May 9, Israeli authorities demolished an under-construction house in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Beit Hanina.

Three weeks earlier, Israeli police forcibly evicted 14 members of the Natsheh family after an Israeli court ruled in favor of settlers, who moved into the property.

A report released in May by an Israeli rights group found that 78 percent of Palestinians in Jerusalem lived below the poverty line.

According to the report by the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, extreme poverty and high unemployment rates in East Jerusalem are a direct result of decades of Israeli policies which have stifled the economy in Palestinian areas.

The report found said that Israeli authorities have revoked the status of 14,084 Palestinian Jerusalemites since 1967, no longer permitting them to live in the city.

Israel captured East Jerusalem in the 1967 Six Day War and later annexed it in a move never recognized by the rest of the world.
