HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained an unidentified Palestinian from the village of Yatta in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron on Friday near the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron city for allegedly possessing a pocket knife.
Local sources told Ma’an that a Palestinian was walking near an Israeli military checkpoint near the Ibrahimi Mosque when a soldier called to him.
Locals said the Palestinian walked toward the checkpoint with “panic and fear on his face.”
Israeli forces subsequently searched him and claimed to have found a “blade with a plastic handle” in his possession. He was taken to an Israeli police station near the mosque for interrogations, locals said.
An Israeli police spokesperson was not immediately available to comment on the incident.
Scores of Palestinians have been detained in previous months for alleged possession of knives, with a concentration of detentions at military checkpoints around the Ibrahimi Mosque.
