RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 20 Palestinians in overnight raids across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.
The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said that Israeli forces detained Kayid al-Hindi from the village of Tell and Adham al-Shaer from Burqa in the Nablus district of the occupied West Bank.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that a total of three Palestinians had been detained in Tell, in addition to one in Burqa.
In the central West Bank district of Ramallah, PPS reported that Israeli forces detained Zuhdi Theib Abu Shusha and his sons Muhammad, 22, Fadi, 23, Ihab, 20, and Bahaa, 17, in the al-Amari refugee camp.
The army spokesperson confirmed the five detentions to Ma’an.
Local sources told Ma’an that clashes broke out during the dawn raid in al-Amari, with Israeli troops firing tear gas and rubber-coated bullets at local youth who threw stones, empty bottles, fireworks, and Molotov cocktails.
Palestinian security sources said that Israeli forces also detained Ahmad Imad Awadallah at a military checkpoint near Ramallah on Monday evening.
In the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem, PPS reported that Israeli forces detained Shaher Mahmoud Issa, 22 and his sister Saja, 19, from the village of al-Khader.
PPS also stated that Israeli forces detained eight Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem, without identifying them.
Locals in the Jerusalem-area Shufat refugee camp said that Israeli forces detained Hamza al-Malihi and Nader al-Masri.
Israeli forces carry out detention raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-nightly basis, with the UN recording an average of 95 weekly raids in the West Bank in 2016, and 100 weekly raids on average thus far in 2017.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,500 Palestinians were detained in Israeli prisons as of January.
