JENIN (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained seven Palestinians, including four teenagers, during predawn military raids across the occupied West Bank, according to local Palestinian and Israeli army sources.
In the northern occupied West Bank district of Jenin, locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces raided the town of Yaabad, where they ransacked several homes before detaining 17-year-old Muhammad Faris Abu Bakr, 18-year-old Yousif Qusayy Amarna, and 19-year-old Hazim Muhammad Amarna.
Israeli forces Saturday also raided the town and detained at least three Palestinians following a military search campaign after an alleged shooting attack on Israeli soldiers in the area.
In the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron, Israeli forces detained four Palestinians during overnight raids Sunday.
Local sources told Ma’an that Israeli soldiers raided home of Zeid al-Rajabi in southern Hebron city and searched the house thoroughly before they took him in custody. The Israeli army said in a statement that a weapon was found in a house in southern Hebron city.
Separately, Israeli forces raided the town of Beit Awwa west of Hebron and detained Bajis Hasan Sweiti after ransacking and searching his home.
Israeli forces also detained a 15-year-old boy Rani Muhammad Hdeib from al-Arrub refugee camp north of Hebron.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed three detentions from Yaabad, two from al-Arrub, one from Beit Awwa, and one from Hebron city.
Israeli forces conduct night raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-daily basis. According to UN documentation, the Israeli army carried out 178 military detention raids between Dec. 13 and Dec. 26.
According to prisoners rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of October. The organization estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
