HEBRON (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least seven Palestinians Thursday in overnight and daytime raids across the occupied West Bank Thursday, according to local and Israeli army sources.
Israeli forces reportedly detained a Palestinian man and his son from the town of Beit Ula in the western Hebron district on Thursday afternoon.
Locals told Ma’an that Israeli soldiers detained Muhammad Abd al-Fattah Sarrahin and his son Ahmad, who was injured in his soldier with live fire forces raided their home.
Witnesses added that a fist fight broke out between Ahmad and the soldiers during the raid before a soldier opened fire at him.
Israeli soldiers then handcuffed him and detained him and his father. It remained unclear if or when Ahmad was given medical treatment.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that they detained five Palestinians in overnight raids, identifying three from the village of Surif in the southern district of Hebron, claiming two were “Hamas operatives.”
They also identified one detainee from Hebron city, and one from the al-Amari refugee camp in the central Ramallah district.
Israeli forces carry out raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-nightly basis. Although UN documentation estimates that the army has carried out a weekly average of 75 detention raids in the occupied West Bank so far in 2016, the average rose to 93 weekly raids from June to August.
According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, some 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of July.
