BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – Israeli forces detained at least 25 Palestinians, including several teenagers and a young woman, in large-scale detention raids carried out across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem during predawn hours on Wednesday, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources.
In the occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Isawiya, lawyer Muhammad Mahmoud from the prisoner’s rights group Addameer reported that four teenage boys were detained, identifying them as Muhammad Abu Uweis, Tamir Mleihat, Nadir Mazin Muheisin, and Abd al-Fattah Abu Saymah.
Amjad Abu Asab, chairman of the Jerusalem Committee for Families of Prisoners, told Ma'an that Israeli forces also detained a young woman identified as Wiam Bassam after raiding her home in the Sur Bahir neighborhood in the southern part of East Jerusalem.
In the neighborhood of Abu Dis east of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces detained a young man identified by locals as Abed Jamal Rabee.
Towards the south, in the West Bank district of Hebron, Israeli forces stormed the village of Khursa south of Hebron city, detaining 27-year-old Mahmoud Khalil Abu Awad.
Palestinian security sources said Israeli forces also raided several neighborhoods in Hebron City, in the northwest town of Surif, and in Yatta to the south, which has been under an Israeli-imposed closure for two consecutive weeks.
Although Palestinian sources did not report any detentions during these raids, an Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an one Palestinian was detained in Hebron City and one in Surif.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces raided the town of Beit Fajjar in the south of the West Bank district of Bethlehem and detained two Palestinian teenagers identified by locals as Malik Akram Taqatqa, and Baraa Nabil Thawabta, both aged 18. An Israeli army statement confirmed that two were detained in Beit Fajjar.
In the north, Israeli forces stormed the village of Azzun in the northern West Bank district of Qalqiliya, reportedly ransacking the homes of two Palestinian security officials identified by Palestinian sources as Arif Samir Shbeita and Main Muhammad Radawn.
Radwan, an officer in the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) preventative security services, was eventually detained by Israeli soldiers following a raid on his home, according to Palestinian sources.
Israeli forces reportedly damaged furniture during the raid on Shbeita’s home, and attacked his brother Muhammad before leaving without detaining anyone. Shbeita is also an officer in the PA’s national security service.
Israeli forces detained an additional man in Azzun after Israeli forces found a hunting rifle with a machine that manufactures steel balls for bullets in his home, according to an Israeli army statement quoted by Hebrew language news sites.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an four additional Palestinians were detained in the northern West Bank district of Tulkarem, with an Israeli army statement reporting that three were detained in the eastern village of Anabta, and one from Tulkarem refugee camp.
Another unidentified Palestinian was detained in Nablus City in the north of the West Bank, with an additional seven being detained in the central district of Ramallah, according to an Israeli army spokesperson.
An Israeli army statement confirmed that one Palestinian was detained in the village of Nilin west of Ramallah, two from the town of al-Bireh adjacent to Ramallah, three from Beitunia southwest of Ramallah -- one of whom was detained for being an alleged Hamas operative -- and one in the village of Beit Surik southwest of Ramallah.
Palestinian sources did not provide additional details to the detention reports in Tulkarem, Nablus, and Ramallah.
According to Palestinian prisoners’ rights organization Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons. The group estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men and boys have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
Israeli forces have carried out a weekly average of 89 search and detention raids on Palestinian communities since the start of 2016, according to UN documentation.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) has reported that Israeli soldiers have kidnapped at least 30 Palestinians, including children, in different parts of the occupied West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, in massive invasions of homes and communities, carried out overnight and on Wednesday morning.
The PPS said the soldiers stormed and violently searched several homes in the central West Bank district of Ramallah and kidnapped eight Palestinians.
The kidnapped have been identified as Majed Sa’id Karakra, Mohammad Badea’ Abu Musallam, 18, Majdi Hussein Hreish, Taleb Ismael Tarayra, 19, Monther Rida Hameeda, 17, Amir Issam Abu Hussein, 15, Mo’in Lutfi Khalaf, 26, and Mohammad Badran Tarayra, 13.
In Jerusalem, the soldiers kidnapped seven Palestinians, including children, after storming and searching their homes.
They have been identified as Mohammad Abu ‘Oweiss, 17, Tamer Darweesh, 17, Nader Mheisin, 16, Abed Abu Saima, 16, Nasser Abu Khdeir, Abed Jamal Abu Rabea’, and Wi’am Hamada.
In the northern West Bank city of Nablus, the soldiers kidnapped two Palestinians, identified as Husam Zeid Hussein and Ahmad Awni Jaber.

In Tulkarem, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, the soldiers kidnapped six Palestinians, identified as Fathi Waleed Nimir, 21, Bara’ Maher Adas, 21, Ahmad Mahmoud Shehada, 19, Ahmad Mahmoud Sharaqa, Ayman Ermeilat and his brother Mo’men.
In Qalqilia, also in northern West Bank, the soldiers kidnapped three Palestinians, identified as Adnan Zeid Amer, and his brother, Ezzeddin, in addition to a security officer, identified as Ma’an Mohammad Radwan.
In Hebron, in the southern part of the West Bank, the soldiers kidnapped three Palestinians, identified as Yousef Sami al-Hoor, 22, Mahmoud Khalil Abu Awad, 27, and Adham Ziad al-Bakri.
In Bethlehem, the soldiers kidnapped two Palestinians, identified as Malek Akram Taqatqa, 18, and Bara’ Nabil Thawabta, 18.

Army Kidnaps Thirteen Palestinians In The West Bank

Israeli soldiers invaded, on Wednesday at dawn, various communities in the occupied West Bank, searched homes and kidnapped at least thirteen Palestinians, including a security officer.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) said the soldiers invaded Tubas city, in central West Bank, violently searched homes and kidnapped a young man, identified as Baha’ Nidal Kharraz.
It added that the soldiers invaded Deir al-Hatab village, east of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, and kidnapped Husam Zeid Qassem Hussein, 22, after storming and searching his family home.
Media sources in Nablus said the soldiers invaded several homes in the Dahia area, in Nablus, after damaging their front doors, before searching them and ransacking their property.
The soldiers destroyed and removed windows and doors of the invaded homes, and damaged electric equipment.
The sources added that the soldiers closed the road leading to a local mosque, and prevented the Palestinians from reaching it for dawn prayers.
The attack led to clashes between several local youths, who hurled stones on the soldiers, and the soldiers who fired many gas bombs and concussion grenades.
The soldiers also kidnapped a young man, identified as Ahmad Awni Jaber, 30, from Ektaba area, east of the northern West Bank city of Tulkarem, after stopping him on the Za’tara roadblock, south of Nablus.
Furthermore, the soldiers invaded Beit Fajjar town, south of Bethlehem, and searched homes before kidnapping two Palestinians, identified as Malek Akram Taqatqa, 18, and Bara’ Nabil Thawabta, 18.
Also, several military vehicles invaded Budrus village, northeast of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, and kidnapped Mo’in Lutfi Khalaf, 27, after searching his home, causing excessive damage.
The soldiers also invaded several villages, west of Ramallah, including Ni’lin, and fired flares, in addition to gas bombs and concussion grenades, while a number of local youths hurled stones at the invading vehicles.
In addition, the Hebron office of the PPS, in the southern part of the West Bank, said the soldiers invaded Yatta, Surif and Doura towns, and Kharsa village, violently searched many homes, and kidnapped Mahmoud Khalil Abu Awad, 27, from Kharsa.
The soldiers also kidnapped a Palestinian security officer, attacked and injured another resident, in Azzoun town, east of the northern West Bank city of Qalqilia.
In addition, the soldiers kidnapped at least five Palestinians, after invading their homes and violently searching them, in the al-Eesawiyya and Silwan towns, in occupied East Jerusalem.
