BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least seven Palestinian youths, including one minor, in predawn raids Monday morning across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.
Local sources in the village of Wadi Fukin west of Bethlehem said Israeli forces raided the village after midnight and detained 19-year-old Ibrahim Atiyeh Manasra. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma’an one Palestinian was detained in the district of Bethlehem.
Witnesses added that Israeli forces broke into the home of 19-year-old Karam Ibrahim Manasra and summoned him to appear for interrogation at the Gush Etzion settlement bloc.
Israeli forces also raided Hebron in the southern West Bank and detained three Palestinians identified by locals as Sheikh Jawad al-Jaabari, Dr. Adnan Abu Tibbana, and Hatim Dufish. Not far from Hebron city, Israeli forces raided the town of Sair and detained Raed Hisham al-Mtour.
Four detentions in the district of Hebron were confirmed by the Israeli army.
Israeli forces also raided the occupied East Jerusalem village of Jaba and detained 15-year-old Ahmad Hani Dar Salim, confirmed by the Israeli army spokesperson.
Local and Israeli army sources in Qalqiliya in the northern West Bank said Israeli forces detained Muhammad Nofal on Sunday evening after he arrived to the Israeli side of Allenby Bridge crossing coming from Jordan.
Since the start of 2016, Israeli forces have conducted a weekly average of 90 search and detention operations in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to UN documentation.
According to Palestinian prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians are being held in Israeli custody. The organization estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at least once in their lives.
