Description
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli authorities issued 13 administrative detention orders against Palestinian prisoners on Wednesday, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society reported.
A lawyer for the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS), Mahmoud al-Halabi, added that nine of the orders were issued against Palestinian prisoners who had already spent months or years in administrative detention.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an they were looking into reports and did not provide reasons for the issuing of the detention orders.
Israel’s policy of administrative detention allows the Israeli army to hold prisoners indefinitely without charging them or allowing them to stand trial, as Israeli authorities can renew a prisoner’s detention every three to six months without reason.
The widely-condemned policy is almost exclusively used against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza, with numerous rights groups claiming it represents a grave violation of human rights and contravenes international law.
Administrative detention orders were issued against:
1. Jawdat Ahmad Mashaal, Ramallah, 6 months extension.
2. Muhammad Najeh Samara, Nablus, 6 months.
3. Ahmad Najib Mafarjeh, Ramallah, 3 months.
4. Wissam Walid Khashan, Jenin, 6 months extension.
5. Ihab Mahmoud Masalmeh, Hebron, 6 months extension.
6. Muhammad Farouq Kamil, Jenin, 3 months extension.
7. Muhammad Mahmoud Nayroukh, Hebron, 4 months.
8. Abed al-Rahman Khader Masalmeh, Bethlehem, 5 months extension.
9. Thaer Arafat Qasmeh, Hebron, 4 months extension.
10. Iyad Said Amro, Hebron, 3 months extension.
11. Halabi Radi Halabi, Nablus, 6 months extension.
