Shaul Nir served seven years of a life sentence after being found guilty of a 1983 shooting and hand grenade attack on the Islamic College of Hebron, which killed three students and wounded 33.

A former member of the Jewish Underground and his wife were wounded Wednesday evening in a shooting attack in the West Bank, only hours after two others were wounded in a stabbing attack in Hebron.

Shaul Nir was found guilty of perpetrating a 1983 shooting and hand grenade attack on the Islamic College of Hebron, which killed three students and wounded 33. After being sentenced to life in prison for their roles in the attack and attempted assassinations of Palestinian officials, President Chaim Herzog commuted his sentence and ordered his release in 1990, after serving less than seven years.

He sustained serious injuries in the attack, his wife Racheli Nir sustained light injuries. The two were on their way to visit their daughter, who lives in the West Bank settlement Avnei Hefetz.

The gunmen fled the scene.

The incident came after a soldier and a civilian were wounded in a stabbing attack in Hebron early on Wednesday afternoon. The assailant was shot and killed.

One of the wounded in the Hebron attack is the son of former Knesset member Orit Strock (Bayit Yehudi). The assailant was identified as Abad a-Rachman Yusori Maswada, the cousin of Ihav Maswada, who stabbed a man in his 40s on Monday in Hebron.

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A former member of a Jewish terror group and his wife were shot and injured on Wednesday evening in a drive-by shooting near Tulkarem in the northern occupied West Bank, Israel's army and media reported.

Shaul Nir, a former member of the Jewish Underground, a group which carried out a string of terror attacks in the 1980s, was seriously to moderately wounded in the shooting near Tulkarem, and his wife, Rachel Nir was lightly wounded.

Shaul, along with three other members of the group, was sentenced to life after being convicted of a 1983 shooting attack on the Islamic College of Hebron, which killed three students and wounded 33. His sentence was later reduced, and Shaul was released.

Israel's army said shots were fired from a passing vehicle, and that Israeli forces are searching the area for a vehicle that fled the scene.
Israel's Magen David Adom said that medics were treating two 60-year-old victims. One was said to have gunshot wounds to the lower extremities while the other was in a critical condition.

Earlier, a Palestinian was shot and killed Wednesday after reportedly stabbing two Israelis in Hebron’s Old City.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that “an assailant stabbed two Israelis” before being shot on scene.

Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom confirmed that paramedics treated two Israelis, one who sustained moderate wounds, the other left with “mild” injuries.

The Palestinian who reportedly carried out the attack was identified as Abd al-Rahman Yusri Maswada.

Abd was the cousin of Ihab Zakariya Maswada, 21, who was killed by Israeli forces on Monday after he stabbed an Israeli near Hebron's Ibrahimi Mosque.

Wednesday’s incident marks the fourth Palestinian to be killed while carrying out attacks in Hebron’s Old City during the last week alone.
The area grew as the epicenter of recent violence over the last two months, and roughly 30 percent of the 115 Palestinians to be killed since Oct. 1 were from the Hebron district.

Hebron’s city center is home to some 800 notoriously aggressive Israeli settlers, who live under the protection of thousands of Israeli forces, surrounded by more than 30,000 Palestinians.
