Description
NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained four Palestinians in raids across the occupied West Bank overnight Monday, Palestinian security sources and the Israeli army said.
Palestinian security sources told Ma'an that Israeli forces detained Mufid Ghazal from his home in the al-Makhfiya area of western Nablus.
They said that Israeli forces also arrested Aws Abdullah Ahmad Thabet at Zaatara checkpoint in southern Tulkarem and seized his car.
An Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed that Israeli forces detained a man from Nablus, saying that he was a "Hamas operative."
She said that Israeli forces also detained a Palestinian north of Bethlehem and another in Hebron for suspected "illegal activity."
Israeli forces routinely detain Palestinians throughout the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, often on the pretext of perceived security threats.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports that Israeli forces have so far this year carried out a weekly average of 78 search and arrest operations across the occupied Palestinian territory -- on average three more a week than they did in 2014.
