BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces overnight Sunday detained six Palestinians from across the West Bank, the Israeli army said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said that one Palestinian was detained near Tulkarem, three near Ramallah, and two near Hebron.

She said all six were detained for "illegal activity," without providing further details.

Israeli media reported that two more Palestinians were detained south of Bethlehem, after they were found carrying Molotov cocktails.

However, the reports could not be confirmed.

Israeli forces routinely detain Palestinians throughout the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, often on the pretext of perceived security threats.

Prisoners' rights group Addameer estimates that 40 percent of the Palestinian male population has been arrested at some point.
