Description
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- A Palestinian worker was reportedly assaulted in occupied East Jerusalem on Wednesday by at least six Israeli youths, Israeli media reported.
Contractor Loay Bakri, 31, was repairing a traffic light in the illegal settlement of Pisgat Zeev when he was approached by a group of Jewish youths and attacked.
He was assaulted with steal rods and suffered a broken hand in the attack, Walla news site reported.
Israeli police arrested two Israeli minors on Thursday who allegedly took part in the attack, the report added.
The spotlight has turned to attacks carried out by extremist Israeli settlers on Palestinians in recent weeks, after an 18-month-old baby was burned alive in an arson attack in the West Bank town of Duma last month.
Several attacks have been carried out since, despite international condemnation and vows by Israeli authorities to both prevent and crack down on the perpetrators of such attacks.
Settlers routinely carry out attacks on Palestinians and their property in so-called "price-tag" attacks, labelled as acts of terrorism by the U.S. government in 2013.
Over 500,000 Israelis live illegally in Jewish-only settlements throughout occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank.
