Description
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Two Palestinians were injured with rubber-coated steel bullets during clashes with Israeli forces in Shufat refugee camp in occupied East Jerusalem on Monday.
A Fatah spokesman in the camp, Thaer Fasfous, told Ma'an that the clashes broke out after "undercover" Israeli forces raided a clothing store inside the camp and arrested a Palestinian.
Fasfous said that Israeli forces then fired tear gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets indiscriminately, injuring one Palestinian in the eye and another in the upper body.
Tensions were heightened inside the camp earlier this month as residents marked a year since 16-year-old Muhammad Abu Khdeir was abducted from the camp and burnt to death by Jewish extremists.
Israeli riot police were deployed in force across Shufat, which was the scene of large protests following the teenager's murder last year.
