BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained 11 Palestinians from across the West Bank overnight Tuesday and confiscated six weapons from the detainees' homes, the Israeli army and police said.

Israeli police spokeswoman Luba al-Samri said in a statement that police and border guard officers, acting on information from Israeli intelligence, broke into houses in Bethlehem where they seized five hunting rifles, a handgun and large amounts of ammunition.

Israeli officers found a young deer locked inside the yard of one of the houses, apparently contravening an Israeli ban on hunting.

Police said they also found a car that was stolen from Israel a week ago.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said that five Palestinians were arrested in Bethlehem, and confirmed that five rifles were confiscated.

She said that the Palestinians were arrested for "illegal activities," without providing further details.

Palestinian sources said Israeli forces also stormed Hebron city and detained Marwan Mahmoud al-Jamal and Yahya Radwan al-Jamal from their houses in the Abu Sneina neighborhood.

Muhammad Khader Mahmoud Basal, 21, was detained in Yatta after Israeli forces raided his family home with police dogs and forced women and children to evacuate during the raid, the coordinator of a local popular committee in southern Hebron, Rateb al-Jbour.

The Israeli army only confirmed one arrest in Hebron.

The army spokeswoman said that two other Palestinians were arrested in Azzun in Qalqiliya and another in Beita in Nablus.

She said they were all arrested for "illegal activities."

Israeli forces routinely detain Palestinians throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem, often on the pretext of perceived security threats, and Addameer estimates that 40 percent of the Palestinian male population has been arrested at some point.

Nearly 6,000 Palestinian prisoners are currently being held in Israeli jails.
