Description
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained five Palestinians from occupied East Jerusalem after raiding their homes in Issawiya and the Old City Monday, the Wadi Hilweh Information Center told Ma'an.
Israeli forces detained Nidal Mahmoud, Abd al-Razeq Moussa Mustafa and Imad Mahmoud Abu Isbeitan from Issawiya, while Taysir Hijazi, 17, and Muhammad Tufahha, 16, were arrested from the Old City.
The detainees were taken to different interrogation centers.
The information center added that clashes erupted in Issawiya at the same time the detentions took place.
Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said he had no information regarding the arrests.
Israeli forces routinely detain Palestinians throughout the West Bank and East Jerusalem, often on the pretext of perceived security threats.
Prisoners' rights group Addameer estimates that 40 percent of the Palestinian male population has been arrested at some point.
Nearly 6,000 Palestinian prisoners are currently being held in Israeli jails.
