HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained 10 Palestinians throughout the West Bank overnight Tuesday, witnesses said.

In Hebron, three were detained after Israeli forces searched several homes across the district. Locals told Ma'an that Israeli forces raided several neighborhoods and detained Raed Hmeidan al-Sharbati, 44, as well as two students Asaad Hashem Imam, 24, and Anas Judi Abu Hadid, 21.

An Israeli army spokeswoman told Ma'an three Palestinians were detained in Hebron, three in the Nablus area, one in Azzun, as well as one southwest of Ramallah. Some were detained on suspicion of involvement in terror activities, while others were believed to be operatives for Hamas.

Three were also detained from the Jenin refugee camp in an operation by Israeli forces to detain individuals suspected for terror activity, during which a Palestinian was injured in the leg by live Israeli fire.

There were over 6,000 Palestinians detained in Israeli jails as of April 1, 2015, according to the Palestinian Prisoners' Society, however this number continually fluctuates as prisoners are detained and released.

Over 400 of these are being held under administrative detention, the highest number in five years, according to Israeli human rights organization B'tselem.

Holding an individual under administrative detention, meaning without trial or charge or an unlimited amount of time, is legal under international law in extenuating circumstances when the individual poses a serious and immediate threat.

The international community, however, has criticized Israel for employing the tactic on a mass scale in inappropriate and discriminatory circumstances

One Palestinian was shot and injured by Israeli army fire after the soldiers invaded, on Wednesday at dawn, the Jenin refugee camp, in the northern West Bank city of Jenin; the army also kidnapped two residents, and detained three.


Medical sources in Jenin said a young Palestinian, identified as Ahmad Salim an-Nourasy, 19, was shot by a live round to his right leg, causing a moderate injury.

Media sources said clashes took place after the soldiers invaded the camp, and that the soldiers kidnapped two Palestinians, identified as Ahmad Tawfiq Qreini, 21, and Abdul-Karim Abu al-Fouz, 19.

In addition, soldiers detained Khawla Issa ad-Damj, 42, Tareq Issa ad-Damj, 31, and his brother ‘Ammar, 19 years of age, and used them as military shields for the duration of the invasion.

The three were released before the soldiers withdrew from the camp.

In related news, many Palestinians suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation, after several Israeli military vehicles invaded the al-‘Arqa village, west of Jenin, and clashes with local youths.

Also on Wednesday, soldiers kidnapped four Palestinians in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, and one near the northern West Bank city of Qalqilia.
