Description
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces arrested a Palestinian child on Tuesday evening and three teenage boys on Wednesday morning in occupied East Jerusalem.
A spokesman of a local Jerusalem committee representing families of prisoners in Israeli custody told Ma'an that Israeli troops arrested 11-year-old Mahdi Abu Asab in the al-Qirmi neighborhood in the Old City.
He added that Israeli troops also stormed East Jerusalem neighborhood Beit Hanina, arresting 17-year-old Mustafa Abu Wahdan, 18-year-old Muhammad Qirrish and 19-year-old Noor Castero.
Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told Ma'an the three were arrested after throwing stones in the Wadi Hilweh neighborhood, reporting that a number of vehicles belonging to Jewish residents had their windows smashed.
In 2014, only 14 percent of land in occupied East Jerusalem was zoned for Palestinian residential construction.
The maximum level of construction in Palestinian neighborhoods stood at 25-50 percent of capacity, while Jewish neighborhoods built at 75-125 percent, according to Israeli human rights organization the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI).
East Jerusalem is internationally recognized as Palestinian territory, but Israel occupied it in 1967 and later annexed it in a move never considered legitimate abroad.
