NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Israeli authorities on Thursday renewed the administrative detention of six Palestinian members of parliament affiliated with the Hamas political movement, sources in the party told Ma'an.

The sources told Ma'an that the decision to keep the six lawmakers in detention without trial or charges comes after they already completed between three and six months each under similar conditions.

The sources identified the members of parliament being held captive by Israel as: Basim Zaarir, who will be held for six more months, Omar Abd al-Raziq, 3 more months, Azzam Salhab, 4 more months, Ibrahim Abu Salim, 4 more months, Fadil Hamdan, 3 more months, and former minister Issa Jaabari, 3 more months.

As of mid-September, 33 Palestinian MPs and two minister were being held in detention by Israel.

The majority of the parliament members currently being held by Israel were arrested in June and July, as authorities arrested en masse any individuals related to Hamas after the disappearance of three Israelis from a Jewish-only settlement near Bethlehem.

Even though Hamas denied any relationship to the disappearance, the campaign led immediately to more than 600 arrests as well as hundreds more taken during the protests that broke out amid the crackdown.

Israel later accused three individuals of involvement in the incident. Despite naming the alleged perpetrators, Israel has refused to release the vast majority of the other individuals it has detained.

More than 7,000 Palestinians are currently being held by Israel, including around 500 in administrative detention without charge or trial.
