JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli authorities have recently extended the detention of 51 Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli jails, a rights group said on Wednesday.
The extensions come amid a major Israeli crackdown on Palestinian dissent across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank, where more than 1,500 Palestinians have been arrested over the last two-and-a-half months.
The Palestinian Prisoner's Society said in a statement that an Israeli court extended the detentions of Muhammad Abu Fayid, Muhammad Abdullah, Abd al-Qader Salman, Mahmoud Fares, Muhammad Fares, Sharaf Obeid, Mahdi Maaruf, Jihad Abu Odeh, Alaa Qarut, Suhaib Bani Odeh, Zeidan Zeidan, Bilal Bani Odeh, Murad al-Araj, Thair Hakim, Muhammad Abu al-Rub, Ayman Hamdan, and Oday Deif.
An Israeli court in Ofer, meanwhile, extended the detentions of Luai Shawamreh, Qusai Shawamreh, Muhammad Sheikh, Ahmad Obaida, Youssef Sayaareh, Hani Khawaja, and Ahmad Shurukh.
A court in al-Jalama extended the detentions of Qusai al-Wishahi, Ahmad Dawasha, Basel Waked, Nour Ahmad, Imad Abdo, Ahmad Hindawi, Ibrahim Yahiya, Mahdi Amarneh, Wajih Awwad, and Nour al-Din Ajjaj.
An Israeli court in Ashkelon extended the detention of Mahmoud al-Nijmi, Fadi Ammur, Hussein Abu Tammaa, Munir Abu Sharar, Omar Hreinat, Thair Hreini, Thair Awad, Haib Alqam, Muhammad Hasaniyeh, and Ayman Sabbatin.
A court at Jerusalem's Russian Compound extended the detention of Nidal Saleh, Mustafa Badran, Arafa Abu Surur, and Musaab Thawabteh.
A court in Petah Tikva extended the detention of Ahmad Daghlas and Nafe Salah.
