Israel Demolishes 11 Bedouin Dwellings near Jerusalem

12:00 Aug 19 2013 Beit Hanina

Description
JERUSALEM, August 19, 2013 (WAFA) – Israeli bulldozers Monday demolished 11 dwellings of the Ka’abneh Bedouins in Beit Hanina, north of Jerusalem, under the pretext of building without permit.

Muhammad Ka’abneh told WAFA that Israeli police and guards surrounded the area at 6 a.m., evicted the Bedouin residents and demolished the tents, displacing about 53 people residing in the area.

He said that his family members have panicked and escaped to the mountains to avoid being arrested or beaten by the Israeli police.

Ka’abneh said he and other Bedouins have been living on that land in Beit Hanina for decades after they had reached an agreement with the Arab owners of the land who currently live in the United States.

He pointed out that Israel is using the absentee property law to claim ownership of that land. It has also declared its intention to build a military camp on that plot where the Bedouins used to live.
